Tasting notes
The wine’s deep robe is of a beautiful ruby red. Its fruity and intense nose predicts an intense yet palatable wine. Regarding its mouth, very present tannins, balanced and ripe, structure the wine marvelously. Without a doubt a wine for ageing.
The Vineyard
Situated in the Côte de Beaune, between Beaune and Volnay, Pommard marks the spot where the hillside slopes gently towards Autun. The land once belonged to the Dukes of Burgundy, religious institutions including the Abbey of Cîteaux and noble families such as the Marey-Monge… As early as the Middle Ages, Pommard was seen as “the jewel of Côte de Beaune wines”. A truely iconic wine… Its controlled designation of origin (AOC) was among the first to be recognized in 1936. On the lower part, ancient alluvium is present whilst, halfway up the hillside, the clay and limestone soils are sufficiently drained by gravel and rubble. On the higher part, we find Oxfordian marl (jurassic), brown calcic soils and brown limestone soils.
The Vintage
2022 is synonymous with a vintage of great quality and the return of satisfying volumes.
After a mild and dry winter, the growing season arrived early. Spared by the April frost, the warm spring accelerated plant growth, favoring early flowering and optimal fruit set. After particularly dry spells during winter and spring, late June rains were timely. A hot, dry and at times scorching summer allowed for a good ripening, although in places the vines did react to hydric stress.
Mid-August rainfall will be decisive by constant sunshine until the harvests, which started on 25th August in the Côte de Beaune and 2nd September in the Côte de Nuits.
